Jenni’s Hawaiian Explorations

I will never forget the first time I encountered an ilio-holo-i-ka-uaua here on Hawaii Island. We decided to take a day trip up the Kohala Coast and stumbled upon Crystal Cove. The day was perfect, the cove was empty and we had the place to ourselves; or so we thought…

We heard a noise, followed by some light splashing. When we started looking to see where it was coming from, we saw a cute monk seal playing in the cove. It proceeded to swim around for about 10 minutes or so before heading out. It was definitely the highlight of my day! 🙂

Tips & Tricks: Dirty Microwaves

Have you ever exploded food or sauce in your microwave? I know that I have and cleaning it was no fun either. This month’s tip/trick will be helpful to those whom have shared this predicament. 🙂

An easy way to clean a dirty microwave is to take a microwavable bowl, add 1 – 2 cups of water and 1 – 2 tablespoons of vinegar. Microwave it uncovered for 5 minutes. Make sure to let it sit a few minutes before removing the bowl as it will be hot. Once removed, wipe the inside of the microwave with a damp paper towel. Your dirty microwave will now be clean!

Retention of Security Deposits

Sometimes after a tenant moves out, repairs may be needed to be done in order to get the property in the condition that it was in prior to occupancy. The information below is taken from the Hawaii Landlord Tenant Code and explains how the retention of a security deposit works.

Retention of Deposit – Section 44(c). If the landlord has lawful grounds to retain all or any portion of the security deposit, the landlord must notify the tenant in writing of the reasons for retention. Any costs, such as cleaning or specific repairs, must be itemized and copies of receipts included. If the repairs cannot be accomplished within the 14 days, estimates for the cleaning or repair services may be substituted.
